Sleep! Energy! Muffins and New BABY!

Today we had a new BABY at the Superlife Ranch! Our miniature horse Envy just gave birth to a beautiful filly! Our family spent the day with the new mother and daughter, and marveled at the cycle of life.

Envy is in much less pain, thanks to the number one natural pain killer – ARNICA!! This homeopathy is GREAT for all life forms! We use it in our home, and I am sure many of you do too. Well, today, so did Envy!

I have been overwhelmed with TWO questions and concerns from my clients recently: Sleep and ENERGY!

So let’s briefly touch on both!

I was just asked by a well-known blogger to write how I, personally, make sure daily exhaustion doesn’t get in my way. She is sharing it on her blog, and I decided that I wanted to share it with YOU! Here is my reply:

It was 9:30 at night, and I had just presented to a huge crowd. Dozens stood in line to ask questions and get their books signed when I heard a man ask loudly “Karen! Where do you get all your energy!?” to which I happily replied “I EAT IT!”

I honestly have answered that question more times than I could ever count!

Minerals – the sparks of LIFE – the ENERGY circuits - all come from plants. Vitamins, phytonutrients and biophotons come from plants! AND ALL PROTEINS (AMINO ACIDS) come from plants! (yes, you read that right. Animals eat plants or plant-eating animals to get amino acids which make proteins!)

So of COURSE if I want energy, I EAT PLANTS!

Let’s also not forget that water conducts electricity throughout the entire bodily system, so that’s KEY to having energy.

By drinking clean pure water, eating plants, making sure we have enough iodine and other minerals and then MOVING and GROOVING - the body is ALL you need for energy! Move that Lymph! Cycle those nutrients! Deliver that oxygen and then BAMB! YOU FEEL LIKE A ROCKSTAR!

That is how I make sure exhaustion doesn’t drag this girl down!

Ok, instant energy covered, now about that SLEEP…….


You are in the middle of the dream, dancing at a masquerade, escaping from a ravaging beast, flying above the city wrapped in a blanket carried by a huge bird, and just when you are going to save the fair maiden or be kissed by the prince…...or be picked for the lead in a Broadway show…..

Duty calls!

WHAT!? You will NEVER find out about the callbacks! The prince is gone, the birds-eye tour of Manhattan is over, and you get up to use the bathroom….

I can assure you that after having seven babies I HAVE BEEN THERE!

So this is part 1 in a 3 part series on getting to sleep, staying asleep, and stopping the bathroom breaks.

Part 1: 7 Tips to stop the bathroom breaks! And THEY WORK! I stopped all those middle of the night bathroom breaks - for good!

#1 No fluid after 8 pm

#2 No food after sunset

#3 Ok, this is the most important step! The body needs to relax at night. Most of us are go-getters, we are busy until last minute, and others just get pulled hopelessly into TV, movies or games, and our bodies stay in fight-or-flight mode during those intense times. Thus the body is NOT relaxed when we head to bed. So this step is AWESOME! I started this years ago, and all those I have shared this with in their quest for better sleep find it works wonders. So tonight get ready for bed. Brush your teeth, wash your face, shower, do your routine, say those gratitude prayers, and then crawl in and sit UP in bed. Next write in your journal, chat with your spouse, watch the sunset over the mountains and just relax. Meditate for a few minutes, whatever you find to do - just RELAX for ten minutes. Then, just when you feel you are slipping away to dream state, pull yourself out of bed and go to the bathroom. You will be amazed at how much you actually needed to go!

#4 If/when you wake up to use the bathroom, simply refuse to get up! Mind over matter is HUGE in winning this fight between bladder and brain. Tell your body you will not be getting up. It may take some convincing, but keep telling it and literally refuse to get up. Even if you do this and wake up again in ten minutes YOU ARE WINNING. Do this over and over during a few nights and you will be amazed at how fast YOUR brain controls the bladder.

#5 TAP for sleep and for that bladder. Everyone in our family taps for something at one point or another, and we all know it works! So tap yourself back to sleep. Here is what I have said: “Hello bladder! Guess what? I say no. Time to sleep, relax, do your job and hold… hold it till morning please. Thank you.” “Although I really feel the need to get up and relieve my bladder, I know there is nothing much in there. I am thankful you, bladder, do your job so well, and let me sleep all night. Let’s get back to that!” “ Up again? Dear bladder, although I do appreciate all you do all day long, we need to sleep at night so my body can heal. Thank you for falling back asleep.” and then you have the traditional tapping phrases taken from EFT Universe: “Even though I have to pee in the night, and I really want to sleep through the night…” “Even though I trust my bladder to take necessary care of itself, I really would like to sleep through the night and I still love and accept myself and appreciate my bladder.” “Even though I wake up having to pee in the night, I ask my bladder to let me sleep through the night and I still love and accept myself.” Enjoy my "Put That Bladder Back to Sleep" video!

#6 Kegel Exercises! These are AWESOME! Do them anywhere! While sitting at a red light, you name it - just exercise those muscles to avoid embarrassing moments when your body gets older, and it helps tremendously during the night to keep you sleeping!

Simple instructions: To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream. Now you've got the right muscles! During the day, tighten your pelvic floor muscles and hold the contraction for five seconds and then relax for five seconds. Do this four or five times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for 10 seconds at a time, relaxing for 10 seconds in between contractions. Do not hold your breath! Breathe freely during the exercises (it’s actually harder to breath while exercising…) Try to repeat this three times or even ten times a day to “work out” those muscles!

Karen’s Almost Paleo Blueberry Muffins!
1 ½ cup Organic Almond Flour
¼ cup Organic Flaxseed Meal
¼ cup Organic Rice Flour OR to make it Paleo- just use Almond Flour!
1 tsp Baking Powder
2 Organic Eggs
¼ cup Organic Coconut Oil, softened
4 TB Organic Honey or Sweetener
1 tsp Almond Extract
1 tsp Vanilla Extrac
3 TB Organic Coconut Milk
2 cups Blueberries

Mix together, fill muffin cups and BAKE at 325° F for 15-18 minutes! DEVOUR! YUMMMMMMM!!!!! :)
